Primary School – Ages 6-12 in 2026

RAD Grades

The NSW International Ballet Academy offers classes for 6 year olds up to 12 year olds in its Junior Levels. The classes are arranged from Primary, and Grade 1 to Grade 5. Primary to Grade 5 students are required to attend two ballet classes per week. We offer four classes per week from Primary to Grade 4, all located in our beautiful studios in Pymble at convenient after school times. Parents have the freedom to choose any 2 of the 4 classes offered for their child to allow them to balance after school activities.

RAD assessments are offered to students attending the required number of classes per week. We believe that assessments provide an attainable goal for students to work towards and are encouraged by the Academy, however they are not compulsory at Grade levels.

From Grade 3 and upwards, students wishing to sit for assessments are required to add in a strength and conditioning class each week. This seeks to develop the strength and control required to master ballet technique at higher grades and to prepare for pointe work in due course.

The ages for each Grade are set by the Royal Academy of Dance and do not follow academic school cut offs. Students turning 6 by the end of the calendar year are started in Primary Grade and follow on from there. If your child is already participating in the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus, and you know their grade, you can enrol here:
